We’re thrilled to share that the Unboxing Tech Toolkit: The Materiality of the Smartphone is now available for download and print in Tamil!

The Unboxing Tech Toolkit: The Materiality of the Smartphone is a hands-on guide to better understand your smartphone - its origins, what it’s made of, who’s involved in making it, and where it ends up after use. This toolkit, originally developed in English, is part of our ongoing effort to make educational resources at the intersection of technology, sustainability, digital awareness, and conscious consumption more widely accessible.
By translating it into multiple Indian languages, we hope to support learners, educators, and communities across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts. With versions already available in Hindi and German, we’re excited to add Tamil to the list and see the toolkit grow into a multilingual resource.
The Tamil version was tested and refined with the help of two incredible educators, Gayathri and Padma, who offered valuable feedback and explored the toolkit’s potential with their students. Their insights helped us ensure that the translated version resonates meaningfully in local learning environments.
Here is a testimonial from Ms.Gayathri: ‘I found this toolkit to be extremely useful and informative, thoughtfully designed to address a very timely issue. It encourages children to reflect on their mobile phone usage and understand the broader environmental impact of frequently changing devices. I truly appreciate the effort that has gone into creating this resource. As a teacher, I would love for my students to have the opportunity to engage with such a meaningful toolkit. Thank you!’
Are you a regional language expert or educator interested in translating this toolkit? We’d love to hear from you! Help us expand the reach of these resources by contributing to a language version close to your heart.
